Odontoglossum triumphans Orchid:
Native habitat: This orchid is a native of Columbia where it grows in dense forest at altitudes of 1,500 to 3,000m.
Description: The inflorescence has an arching habit and grows to 80cm high. It produces abundant flowers, up to 7.5cm in diameter. The sepals and petals are golden yellow with reddish brown marking, while the lip is yellow and white with a prominent reddish brown marking at the bottom. The pseudobulbs grow to 10cm high and produce two leaves, each up to 40cm long, from the top of the bulb.
Flowering season: Spring.
Cultivation: A medium grade compost, dappled shade and cultivation in a cool house is needed. This orchid will flower while still a young plant which tends to retard its growth. To resolve this, remove the first years inflorescence as soon as it appears so that the plant can devote its energy into growing.
Synonym: Odontoglossum spectatissimum.
